Upgrading your computer

Upgrading is an excellent way to improve computer performance and increase lifespan. We assess the computer before recommending options and associated costs.

Solid State disk upgrades are popular and offer incredible performance benefits, often doubling the life of a good computer. A relatively quick upgrade, it can easily be done within a working day – actual upgrade only takes around 1.5 hours. We like to bench test the computer for a few hours after to ensure 100% stability.

Repairing your computer

Repairs are required when performance is reduced or more serious symptoms occur such as failure to power on. After diagnostics the cause is determined and we will recommend the solution assuming it is cost effective. Most common hardware failure is the disk drive, these can be replaced quite easily.

Bring your computer up to date with a Solid State Disk upgrade. Improve performance considerably, ensure it will last for many years to come. Why not upgrade to Windows 10 at the same time.

Windows 10 Upgrades

Why not upgrade your computer to Windows 10. Microsoft Support for Windows 7 ends in 2020 so be prepared. We can assist with Windows upgrades on desktop and laptop computers.

Can any computer be upgraded?

Correct, almost any computer can be upgraded. There are exceptions but these are extremely rare.

What is the point in upgrading?

Upgrading a well specified computer can literally double the lifespan if done correctly.

What parts get upgraded?

The most commonly upgraded part is the hard disk. These would normally be swapped out for a new Solid State Disk, also referred to as SSD. Solid State Disk upgrades will improve performance massively.

We can provide other upgrades such as memory (RAM), graphics cards, wireless and more.

Will the computer be faster after an upgrade?

It most certainly will. We only recommend upgrading if it has a significant impact on performance. In many cases the computer will be faster than new once upgrades are complete.

This varies but on average a Solid State Disk upgrade costs between £150-200. Price includes the disk and transfer of data.

Wouldn't it make more sense to buy a new computer?

Sometimes yes, we will advise buying new in some cases. We only ever recommend upgrading if the existing computer is well specified and its usable life can be extended.

Could I try upgrading the computer myself?

We always welcome more work but it is great to know some people would like to have a go themselves. If you go DIY and get stuck at any point we will be happy to help.

How do I know the computer needs repairing?

This is normally quite obvious. A serious failure will often mean the computer doesn’t start properly. Less serious problems are usually diagnosed by the computer slowing down significantly.
